Annette has a long association with the suburb of Burwood: Annette's grandparents lived & worked here, and Annette's mother also grew up in Burwood, where she attended both Burwood Primary & High Schools. In Burwood Park stands a memorial to the almost 2000 prisoners of war who lost their lives in the Sandakan, Borneo death marches of WWII. Annette's Great Uncle Nelson Short was one of only 6 survivors of the horrific death marches in Borneo.
Annette was invited by the Federal Australian Government to deliver a speech in Sandakan, Borneo, on behalf of her Great Uncle on ANZAC Day 2024.
